Yuri Ostrovsky
Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer, ClickDiagnostics
Yuri Ostrovsky is co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of ClickDiagnostics, a company spun-out from Harvard and MIT to provide mobile telemedicine services to underprivileged populations of the developing world. Yuri started out in the IT computer industry, but ended up doing research in Neuroscience. His research has taken him to India, where he has worked on a project called Project Prakash (Sanskrit for "light"), whose goal is to provide treatment and rehabilitation to the congenitally blind as well as to understand the mechanisms of the brain as it learns to make sense of the visual
world. His work has appeared in scientific journals and the popular press, including the Boston Globe and Time magazine.
Yuri's work and travels in developing nations convinced him that there needs to be a better, more scalable way to provide medical resources to the 2 billion or so people world-wide lacking such access. The recent advances of mobile technology have finally enabled practical solutions to this problem, and thus brought together Yuri and the other co-founders of ClickDiagnostics.
About ClickDiagnostics and ClickHealth.org
The goal of the Click organizations is to build medical capacity in a turn-key, grass-roots fashion, allowing for local members of a population to have access to quality medical expertise without expensive and difficult-to-use infrastructure. Mobile phone-based medicine has the power to greatly increase the efficiency of the use of medical experts' time and to increase their geographical reach. Leveraging the store-and-forward model of communication increases the efficiency multiplier even greater. We believe in spreading this technology to everyone by using market-based forces in a micro-franchise model, where possible.
ClickHealth.org is a non-profit organization which develops low-cost technology, provides turn-key IT hosting, and works with hospitals and health ministries in the developing world to confirm the Click model of growth and expand the medical offerings as appropriate to the populations' needs. ClickDiagnostics, Inc. supports the implementation of Click services under a market-based business model, connecting local micro-entrepreneurs and micro-financing institutions under an established mobile-medicine umbrella.
